“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.”
This week we have not yet reached the first Beatitude.
Instead, we have spent the week getting ready to listen.
We saw that Jesus notices the people who come to Him. We learned that disciples stay close enough to hear His words. We remembered Mary sitting at Jesus' feet. We thought about the many voices competing for our attention. And yesterday we saw why Jesus is unlike any other teacher.
Today is a good day simply to worship Him.
The Sabbath reminds us that our lives do not depend entirely on our own work. God invites us to stop, remember Him as Creator and Redeemer, and enjoy fellowship with Him.
That makes Sabbath a beautiful picture of what disciples did on the mountain: they came to Jesus, sat near Him, and listened.
Over the coming weeks Jesus will say some things that may be familiar and others that may surprise us. But before we begin, let us make a family decision:
We want to hear what Jesus says.
Not merely to know His words.
Not merely to agree with them.
We want to know Him and, by His grace, live as His disciples.

Read Matthew 5:1–2 again. Then say this week's memory verse together:
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:” — Matthew 7:24
If your family sings together, choose a song about following Jesus, hearing His voice, or trusting His Word.
Invite each family member who wishes to pray one short sentence. Thank Jesus for His Word and ask Him to lead your family through the year ahead.
