Psalm 37:11 (KJV)
“But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”
Jesus' words in Matthew 5:5 echo Psalm 37: “the meek shall inherit the earth.”
Psalm 37 was written for people who could see wickedness apparently succeeding around them. David repeatedly tells God's people not to fret. Evil will not last forever. Trust the Lord and wait for Him.
That is the setting for the promise to the meek.
They do not have to grasp for everything now because they trust God's future.
The Bible ends with that future becoming reality. Revelation describes “a new heaven and a new earth.” God dwells with His people, and sin, death, sorrow, and pain are gone.
The inheritance Jesus promises is therefore much larger than getting ahead in this present world.
Earthly power changes hands. Wealth disappears. Nations rise and fall. But God's promise remains.
The meek can afford to trust rather than grasp, serve rather than dominate, and wait rather than retaliate because they know who ultimately owns the earth.
It belongs to God, and He has promised an inheritance to His children.
Our future is secure not because we were strong enough to seize it, but because the King has promised it.
How does knowing that God has promised a new earth change the way we think about getting everything we want right now?

Then read Revelation 21:1–5 and talk about what you most look forward to in the earth made new.
Thank God for the inheritance He has promised. Ask Jesus to make your family meek, faithful, and willing to trust His future.
