“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
Jesus does not merely describe the hunger. He gives a promise: “they shall be filled.”
That promise is important because spiritual growth can sometimes feel slow.
We may sincerely want to be patient and discover how impatient we still are. We may ask God for victory over a habit and find that the battle requires perseverance. We may read Scripture and realize how much we still have to learn.
Do not confuse hunger with failure.
The fact that you desire God's righteousness, grieve when you fall short, and keep coming back to Christ is evidence that God is working in your life.
Paul told the Philippians that “he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Our confidence is not in our ability to transform ourselves. It is in God's faithfulness to complete the work He begins.
We should never become satisfied with sin. But neither should we become hopeless because we have not yet reached Christian maturity.
Keep coming to Jesus. Keep feeding on His Word. Keep confessing when you fall. Keep choosing His way.
The Savior who created the hunger has promised satisfaction.
One day, when Christ's work is complete and sin is gone forever, God's people will reflect His character without the struggle we know now. Until then, He continues filling hungry hearts.
Why is it encouraging to know that God is responsible for completing the good work He begins in us?

Then let each person name one way they would like Jesus to help them become more like Him.
