Day 58 · Week 9
Passage: Romans 5:1; Colossians 1:19–22
Memory Verse: Matthew 5:9
Romans 5:1 (KJV)
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Before we can understand peacemaking between people, we should remember where peace begins.
Sin created hostility between humanity and God. We could not repair that separation by ourselves.
God moved toward us.
Through Jesus, He made reconciliation possible. Paul says that those who are justified by faith “have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
This means peacemaking is not merely a useful social skill. It is rooted in the gospel.
God did not wait until we deserved reconciliation. Christ came while we were still sinners. He told the truth about sin, bore its cost, and opened the way for us to return to the Father.
When we seek peace with others, we are following the pattern of the God who first sought peace with us.
That does not mean every relationship can be restored exactly as it was. Trust may need rebuilding, boundaries may sometimes be necessary, and reconciliation requires truth.
But Christians should never treat bitterness and hostility as normal goals. We belong to the God of peace.
How does the way God reconciles sinners to Himself help us understand peacemaking?
We do not make peace in order to earn God's love. We seek peace because God has already moved toward us in Christ.
Thank Jesus for making peace between sinners and God. Ask Him to help your family reflect that reconciling grace.
