“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Jesus expects faith to become visible in action.
“That they may see your good works,” He says.
Good works do not earn salvation. We are saved by God's grace, not because we have accumulated enough good deeds. But grace does not leave us unchanged.
A living faith produces a changed life.
James makes the same point when he says that faith without works is dead. If we tell someone who is hungry to be warm and filled but do nothing to help, our words have not accomplished much.
Light becomes visible through practical love.
It may mean helping a neighbor, visiting someone lonely, giving generously, doing an unnoticed chore, defending someone being mistreated, caring for someone who is sick, or taking time to listen.
Many acts of Christian service are small enough that nobody outside the situation will ever hear about them.
That is fine.
The purpose is not to build our reputation. The purpose is to let the goodness of our heavenly Father become visible.
Why are good works an important part of Christian witness if good works cannot save us?
Choose one practical act of service your family can do for someone this week. If possible, do it without seeking recognition.
Thank God for saving us by grace. Ask Him to make that grace visible through practical acts of love and service.
