“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any...”
It can be easier to appear righteous in public than to live righteously at home.
People outside our family often see us for limited periods of time. At home, everyone sees what happens when we are tired, interrupted, disappointed, or irritated.
That makes home one of the most important places for the righteousness of Christ to become practical.
Paul describes a life clothed with mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness, love, gratitude, and the peace of God.
Those qualities sound beautiful until we realize they are needed precisely because people sometimes inconvenience and hurt one another.
Patience is needed when someone is slow. Forgiveness is needed when someone has done wrong. Kindness matters when irritation would be easier.
Hungering for righteousness therefore means more than wanting to understand doctrine correctly or behave properly at church. It means wanting Jesus to change the atmosphere of our home.
None of us will do this perfectly. That is why grace must be part of the home too. We confess, forgive, begin again, and keep asking Christ to rule our hearts.
A family seeking righteousness is not a family pretending to be perfect. It is a family increasingly willing to let Jesus change how they treat one another.
Which quality in Colossians 3:12–15 would make the biggest difference in our home if we practiced it more consistently?

Ask Jesus to make your home a place where His righteousness is seen in ordinary words, attitudes, and relationships.
