Day 39 · Week 6
Passage: Psalm 119:9–16; 1 Peter 2:2–3
Memory Verse: Matthew 5:6
Psalm 119:11 (KJV)
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
Our appetites can be trained.
What we repeatedly consume often affects what we begin to crave. That principle can be true spiritually too.
Peter compares God's Word to nourishment and tells believers to desire it so that they may grow. The writer of Psalm 119 treasures God's Word, meditates on it, and hides it in his heart.
This does not mean that every time we open the Bible we will immediately feel excited. There are days when attention is difficult and passages require patient thought.
But regular exposure to God's Word shapes our spiritual appetite.
The opposite is also true. If nearly every quiet moment is filled with entertainment, notifications, arguments, advertising, or endless scrolling, we should not be surprised if our attention for spiritual things becomes weak.
The answer is not to make a list of everything we are forbidden to enjoy. It is to ask what our habits are teaching our hearts to desire.
Jesus says those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed. One way that hunger grows is by repeatedly tasting what is good.
God's Word helps us recognize His voice, understand His character, and desire the life He offers.
How can the things we repeatedly watch, read, or listen to affect what we begin to want?
Choose one small part of today's Scripture to read again later today instead of automatically reaching for another distraction.
Ask God to give your family an increasing appetite for His Word and wisdom in choosing what fills your minds.
