“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
Why does Jesus connect peacemaking with being called the children of God?
Because children often resemble their parents.
God is the One who moved toward a rebellious world in order to reconcile sinners to Himself. He is patient, merciful, truthful, and willing to restore.
When His children become peacemakers, the family resemblance begins to show.
This does not mean we become God's children by successfully settling enough arguments. Scripture says we are received into God's family by grace through Christ.
But belonging to the family changes us.
Paul tells believers to be “followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love.” A child of God learns the Father's ways.
That means peacemaking is part of Christian witness. People may hear what we say about God, but they also watch how we respond when relationships become difficult.
Do we spread conflict or calm it? Do we protect our pride or pursue reconciliation? Do we speak truth with love?
We will not do this perfectly. But as Christ changes us, our relationships can increasingly reveal whose family we belong to.
What qualities in a peacemaker reflect the character of God?
Say this week's memory verse together:

Then let each person name one way they would like their relationships to reflect God's character more clearly.
Thank God for receiving us as His children through Christ. Ask Him to make your family recognizable by His love, truth, mercy, and peace.
