Faithfulness can feel lonely when the people around us do not understand.
Hebrews reminds us that God's people have faced that experience throughout history.
Some saw remarkable deliverance. Others endured imprisonment, rejection, suffering, and death without seeing an earthly rescue. Scripture honors both groups for faith.
Then Hebrews 12 points us to Jesus.
We are surrounded by the testimony of those who trusted God before us, but our eyes are ultimately fixed on Christ. He endured the cross and the hostility of sinners without turning away from His mission.
When following Jesus feels lonely, we should remember that we are part of a much larger story.
We are not the first people who have had to choose faithfulness over acceptance. We are not forgotten because obedience is difficult. And we are never beyond the notice of Christ.
This can be especially important for children and teenagers. Feeling different from friends can seem enormous. Families can become places where questions are welcomed, convictions are explained, and courage is strengthened.
We do not endure by pretending pressure does not hurt. We endure by looking to Jesus.
How can knowing the stories of faithful people in Scripture help us when obedience feels lonely?
Choose one biblical person who remained faithful under pressure and briefly retell that person's story together.
Thank God for faithful believers who have gone before us. Ask Him to keep your family's eyes fixed on Jesus when following Him feels lonely.
