“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
We all seek something.
We seek food when we are hungry, answers when we are confused, and security when we are afraid. Adults may think about bills, jobs, and the future. Children have worries of their own.
Jesus does not pretend those needs are imaginary. In Matthew 6 He talks about food, drink, and clothing—the necessities of ordinary life.
But then He changes the order: “seek ye first the kingdom of God.”
Jesus is not saying that responsible planning is wrong. He is teaching us that worry must not become our master and material needs must not become our highest pursuit.
Our Father already knows what we need.
Seeking God's kingdom first means that faithfulness to God comes before everything else. We do not put Jesus aside until all our other problems have been solved. We trust Him in the middle of them.
This week's memory verse is therefore more than something to recite. It is a way of arranging life: God first.
